The main reason for the low interest rates, in my view is simply to help the banks. The government needs to do whatever it takes to get them back to normal. We have had a "credit crunch" and until "credit" is deployed back into the system via the banks we simply cannot grow. With all the fines imposed, they still have a very strong core operating profit. It's crazy to think that to enter the FTSE100 a company needs a market cap of I think 3 billion and yet the banks have paid out 15 billion in fines...!!!
